Kydus joins PRL for global performer rights admin!

The shrewdest industry eyes are now focused upon Kydus as this modest, consistent talent who is building his own path in dance music society

In the last 3 years Kydus has perfected his own brand of infectious, driving, flawless house and techno. Aligning a series of exciting originals and collaborations with some of the world’s most revered labels such as Toolroom, Saved, Knee Deep in Sound, Stereo & his spiritual home Circus Recordings.

Kydus has achieved unparalleled support from Radio One’s Pete Tong earning him 3 “Essential New Tunes”.

In 2018 Kydus made a bold move and changed musical direction, whilst still delivering tech bangers he decided it was time for a change and rather than following suit he’s created his own blend of uplifting, melodic house. ‘Markeeta’s Way’ on Danny Howard’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ was the first glimpse of this sound. This was soon followed up by ‘Aftermath’ on Atlantic Records’ dance imprint Big Beat in the US. November 2019 sees another release for Big Beat in the shape of ‘Destiny’ an uplifting and evocative cut that features the vocal delights of soon to be superstar Camden Cox.

Not wanting to stray from his roots, Kydus decided to launch his own label Kinetic. Just two releases in and the label is mustering an air of mystique. Each release will divide genres and the overall ethos is to focus on quality club records. Pete Tong showed immediate support by playing ‘Liberation’ two weeks in a row on his Radio 1 show.

There’s plenty more to come from Kydus in more ways than one!

Ilyus Brown ( Illyus & Barrientos) joins PRL for global Performer Rights admin!

Glasgow has always been a fertile breeding ground for house music. With countless internationally-renowned DJs hailing from the city, there is no shortage of world-class talent in the UK’s northern clubbing powerhouse. The latest duo to set dance floors alight in Glasgow and far beyond are Illyus & Barrientos.

Illyus grew up in Frankfurt after being born in Govan and met his production partner Ivan on Glasgow’s dance floors in 2014, building a friendship over their mutual love of the kind of unashamedly big, floor-filling modern house tunes that have since propelled them to dizzying levels of acclaim.

In many ways, they are an odd couple – while Illyus was growing up in the vibrant local hip-hop scene in Germany then Glasgow, distributing early mixtapes for an enthusiastic audience of friends, Barrientos was still taking classical piano lessons, playing Chopin and Beethoven. In the studio, these diverse influences come together to create some spectacular dance floor alchemy. Raw and funky, their tracks pulse with percussive energy and deep, infectious hooks.

With stellar releases such as ‘Shout’, ‘So Serious’ and ‘M.E.A’ on Toolroom Records, plus releasing some Beatport chart-topping records on Defected Records and Mother Recordings, Illyus & Barrientos have well and truly cemented their status as one of the hottest DJ and production duos in the UK. So much so, that they have featured heavily on Radio 1 (Radio 1 Rave Lounge, guest interview on Danny Howard’s show, guest mix for Annie Nightingale and 2 mini mixes for Annie Mac), and were also asked to record a mix for the prestigious BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix series.

Having already played at clubs around the world from Moscow and Bangkok, to Los Angeles and Mexico City, their touring schedule for 2019 grows bigger by the minute; with debut tours in Australia and Asia in motion, plus an incredible residency at Eden Ibiza lined up for summer 2019. They are also staples guesting for Claptone at his infamous Masquerade parties, Danny Howard’s ‘Nothing Else Matters” tours and Mother Recordings label parties in Europe.

It’s looking like this year is going to be bigger than the last, and PRL is pleased to welcome Illyus to our roster for global perfomer rights admin!

Mark McGowan joins PRL for global Performer Rights admin. via 23rd Precinct Music!

Mark McGowan is renown for the power and timbre of his neo-Soul voice. A voice that keeps one ear firmly in working class Glasgow, yet transports the other to the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 60's. McGowan’s intricate picking style and storytelling developed from an early age and became the tools for him to express himself.

Mark's 2016 EP 'Fugazi' built on the excitement caused by the release of his debut single the previous year last year, the AAside 'Bonnie & Clyde'/'Colour of Surrender' , which earned him some prestigious international blog attention as well as a cult following on Glasgow's thriving independent scene, leading to him gaining status as a headline act in the city. The 'Fugazi' EP brought a diverse collection of influence to the table, with Barne Society producer Marco Rea (BMX Bandits, Emeli Sande), creating a contemporary texture as the backdrop to McGowan's tales of outlaw's, regret, revenge and romance. Tracks 'Lighthouse' and 'Fugazi' display the essence of Mark McGowan's style with their bittersweet images being painted over circular picking patterns. McGowan also displays dark humor with sounds reminiscent of Otis Redding doing Johnny Cash in the rockabilly hoe down that is 'Sunday Best'. Mark McGowan added a fresh vitality to his Soul inflected folk with 2017 single 'Hot Coals'. Built on a hypnotic guitar figure and hooky chant 'Hot Coals' maintains the vivid romantic imagery that coloured McGowan's previous releases, while at the same time distilling his strengths in a more direct, contemporary setting. Hot Coals was helped brought to life by producer Rick Webster who has worked with the likes of Breakfast Muff, Unkle Bob and James.

In Autumn 2019, Mark released 4 track EP 'Speakeasy' though Los Angeles based label NHM LLC. Barry Eastmond joins PRL direct for global Performer Rights Admin!

Barry is one of the most successful and prolific producers/songwriters/arrangers in contemporary music, racking up over sixty gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums on some of the most important artists in pop and R&B, with cumulative sales of over 80 million copies worldwide. Respected and acknowledged Barry’s worked with legends such as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Barry White, Anita Baker, George Benson, Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight, and has provided hit records for major artists incl. Britney Spears, Brandy, Faith Evans, Michael Bolton, Vanessa Williams, Freddie Jackson, Billy Ocean, Kenny Lattimore, Regina Belle and Tamia, among others.

Barry’s first credits as an arranger and producer appeared in 1982 on records by The O’Jays, Teddy Pendergrass and McFadden & Whitehead; after a few years on the road with Melba Moore, Barry was hired for gigs with the likes of Chaka Khan, Angela Bofill and Phyllis Hyman. A call from a New York contractor resulted in a couple of years as a musician in the hit Broadway show, “Cats”.

By the mid-‘80s, Barry’s career as a writer began to take hold: he had songs on albums by Billy Ocean (his breakthrough album, “Suddenly”), Melba Moore (“Read My Lips”) and then in 1985, then-newcomer and Moore protégé, Freddie Jackson, penning six of eight songs on the soul vocalist’s best-selling debut LP, “Rock Me Tonight.” The LP also provided Barry with his first major production credits on six cuts.

Included on Jackson’s debut set was another classic – “You Are My Lady” – which Barry wrote as a tribute to his wife: “That song literally changed my life forever,” Barry reflects. “After working on Freddie’s album and playing and writing for Billy Ocean’s “Suddenly” album, I was hired by Jive Records to work with [South African musician/singer/songwriter] Jonathan Butler after they heard my work on a couple of (jazz guitarist) Earl Klugh’s records.”

Barry’s production skills were on full display on subsequent albums by Butler, Billy Ocean’s classic “Love Zone” and “Tear Down These Walls”, and Jackson and by the end of the ‘80s, he had added a slew of both renowned artists (Britain’s iconic singer Tom Jones, George Benson, gospel star Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Stephanie Mills, saxophonist Najee and Regina Belle) to an ever-growing list of credits.

In the early ‘90s, Barry was in demand for a range of production assignments including with three then-Arista recording artists, Jeffrey Osborne (with him he scored a No. 1 R&B hit, “I’m Only Human”), ‘Dreamgirl’ Jennifer Holliday (with “I’m On Your Side”) and the legendary Dionne Warwick, for whom Barry co-produced a track with her original producers, Burt Bacharach & Hal David.

Others who benefitted from the Eastmond magic touch for the first five years of the ‘90s included Will Downing, Keith Washington, Phil Perry, Rachelle Ferrell, Glenn Jones and The Temptations: one session with hitmaker Howard Hewett in 1990 on a duet with global superstar Anita Baker resulted in a subsequent call from Baker (who had cited Barry’s work with Jonathan Butler as the catalyst for his involvement) a few years later. The initial result was Barry’s involvement with Anita’s best-selling “Rhythm Of Love” 1994 album and a Grammy win for her with Barry’s “I Apologize,” penned with Gordon Chambers.

The decade of Barry’s solid reputation as the ‘go to’ producer continued with Kenny Lattimore’s “For You” (acknowledged as the singer’s breakthrough hit), sessions with the late Phyllis Hyman (for what would be her final album release, “I Refuse To Be Lonely”), Maysa, Vanessa Williams, Nancy Wilson, Vesta, Michael Bolton, Martha Wash and a stand-out track for the hit movie, “Set It Off” in the form of “Missing You” performed by Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Tamia and Brandy. Recalls Barry, “It was great to reunite with Chaka from our early ‘80s days on the road and Gladys was someone I always wanted to work with.” Another personal highlight for Barry was working with the late legendary Al Jarreau on tracks for his 1999 set, “Tomorrow Today”.

Barry’s entry into the 21stcentury began with “Dear Diary,” a track on an album that would go on to sell over fifteen million copies – Britney Spears’ “Oops!...I Did It Again” – and continued with sessions with Peabo Bryson, Yolanda Adams, Kenny Lattimore & Chante Moore, Broadway star Elisabeth Withers, ‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin and the iconic Whitney Houston, with Barry contributing the title track for her 2003 Christmas album, “One Wish.”

Barry also completed two albums with Anita Baker for Blue Note, 2004’s best-selling “My Everything” (on which he produced all but one track) and 2005’s “Christmas Fantasy.” Barry’s work with teenage prodigy Karina Pasian on Def Jam earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B album; and further projects included reunions with Freddie Jackson and Kenny Lattimore and in 2013, Barry produced Billy Ocean’s first album in a number of years, “Here You Are” (consisting of Billy’s take on standards) which achieved major sales and chart success in the UK (where it reached #4 on the best-sellers list).

In addition, through his illustrious career, Barry has composed movie and TV themes as well including "When The Going Gets Tough" from the hit movie, "The Jewel Of The Nile", the afore-mentioned "Missing You" from "Set It Off" as well as a number of popular U.S. television shows.

The recipient of numerous awards including an American Music Award for “Nice’N’Slow” (one of the key tracks on Freddie Jackson’s 1988 “Don’t Let Love Slip Away” album) and numerous ASCAP Pop and R&B citations, Barry has been a member of the Board of The Recording Academy and was honored alongside Hal David, Lyle Lovett, Jackie De Shannon, Dean Kay, Brett James, Hillary Lindsay, Gordie Sampson and others at ASCAP’s “We Write The Music” 2011 event at the Library of Congress at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. where Freddie Jackson performed the timeless “You Are My Lady”.

Barry’s recent activities have included tenure as an adjunct professor at NYU Steinhardt Performing Arts Department in songwriting as well as involvement in the NYU Summer Songwriting Workshop. He comments, “I was a guest speaker for ten years at The Berklee School Of Music in Boston and for the past four years, I’ve taught at NYU. I’m comfortable in this environment and I’ve worked with some truly talented students. I’m truly happy to pass on the knowledge, including everything I learned from great record men like Clive Davis, Ahmet Ertegun, and (Jive Records President) Clive Calder.” Barry was recently inducted into “The Soul Music Hall Of Fame” as a producer/arranger which he considers a thrill and an honor to be a part of.

Noting that he “still loves being in the studio…I could do it every day!”, Barry’s most recent projects include tracks on Najee’s best-selling jazz/R&B album, “Poetry In Motion” and work on a Billy Ocean album of brand new songs for 2018. In addition Barry has been a new song on the brand new Steve Perry Album ”Traces” which he co-wrote with Steve entitled “You Belong To Me”.

Euan Hinshelwood (Younghusband) joins PRL for Performer Rights Admin!

Euan Hinshelwood is a British songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, tape studio owner and producer based in Greenwich, London. His band Younghusband have been together for over ten years and are considered cult heroes, with both their 2011 debut album ‘Dromes’ and 2015 follow-up 'Dissolver' receiving critical acclaim by the international music press.

This summer, the band will release their third LP ‘Swimmers’ on 7 June 2019 via Opposite Number records. ‘Swimmers’ is awash with glowing guitar melodies, breezy pop moments and restrained yet potent songcraft. It looks to themes of open space and reflection, partly inspired by band’s move to their own studio in Greenwich, built by Euan in an old barn.

It’s a fresh approach taken for a record that oozes freshness from every note on it – a logical step from the busyness of their preceding album. When they released their second album, 2015’s Dissolver, it came with a string of impressive names attached to it. Released by ATP, produced by Loop’s Robert Hampson, recorded at Geoff Barrow’s Invada Studios and featuring Warren Ellis of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ sprawling viola work. The result was an album that calmly shrugged off the neo-psych label that some lazily placed them in the wake of their 2013 debut album Dromes, a record that Mojo gushed about saying “It pushes bittersweet melodies from under a reverb rug.”

Euan has been a member of and played on the recordings for many successful British bands including Cate Le Bon, TOY, Meilyr Jones, Wesley Gonzalez, Drinks, Rose Elinor Dougall, and Emmy The Great.

In his analogue tape studio, Euan recently has been recording the likes of Value Void, Wesley Gonzalez, Blueprint Blue, JC Flowers, Luxury Apartments, The Nickajack Men, Great Silkie and Charles Howl.

Harrison joins PRL for Global Performer Rights Admin!

UK born Harrison has accomplished a lot within the music industry as a raw, talented Vocalist and DJ and is still only in his early 20s. His impressive Live show combines these talents and has taken Harrison across Europe, Asia, North America and Africa. His talented songwriting and individualistic voice has led to support from the biggest names in dance including Tiësto, David Guetta, Avicii, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Radio 1’s Danny Howard and beyond…

Harrison has been able to appeal to the best of the best with his distinct, catchy lyrics and one-of-a-kind voice which, after early collaborations with the likes of David Guetta, also enticed the #1 DJ Mag Top 100 DJ at the time, Hardwell. Joining forces for the controversial track ‘Sally’ & ‘Earthquake’, the unique stance of risqué lyrics paired with main stage dominating production became one of the most played and most spoken-of tracks on Hardwell’s album ‘United We Are’, also reaching #1 status in the Netherlands.

Cranking things up another gear, Harrison went on to release a slew of tracks with Laidback Luke on his first artist album in 13 years (‘Never Rave Again’), EDM-pop powerhouse Steve Aoki (‘Holding Up The World’), Dannic & Lucky Date (‘Mayday’), also continuing his collaborative streak with Thomas Gold (‘Take Me Home’) and VINAI (‘Sit Down’ ‘Get Ready Now’ & ’The Wave’ ), spanning the "emotive" to the "party-starting" – 2018 was his year to step out of the shadows and shine of his own accord.

Launching his own Outlaw imprint after the success of his Armada, Spinnin’ and Revealed Recordings releases, a new dawn emerged for Harrison with ‘Blinding My Vision’, laying out an ambitious path of future bass that merges with his vocal flair. Fuelling the excitement of his Tracks ‘2 White Lies’ with Kill The Buzz & ‘In My Bloodstream’ creating his own unique sound and proving his passion in stepping out solo, his sound is one that could only reside from a true artist taking control of his own destiny.
